Kuroda Nagamasa Cap

Kuroda Nagamasa was a military commander from the Azuchi-Momoyama period to the early Edo period, and the first lord of the Fukuoka Domain in Chikuzen Province. He was the eldest son of the Sengoku period military commander Kuroda Kanbei, who is the subject of a historical drama, and played an active role in the subjugation of Kyushu and the Bunroku-Keicho War. In particular, he served on the eastern side of the Tokugawa army in the Battle of Sekigahara, and was praised as the man of greatest merit. He was granted a fief of 523,000 koku in Nashima, Chikuzen Province by Tokugawa Ieyasu, and established the Fukuoka Domain, becoming its first lord.

The black lacquered peach-shaped large buffalo helmet with side guards, which was used as a reference for this design, was made during the Azuchi-Momoyama period in the 16th century and is kept at the Fukuoka City Museum in Momochi as a nationally designated Important Cultural Property.

There are two types of "black lacquered peach-shaped large buffalo horn helmet" used by Kuroda Nagamasa, and the large horns beautifully convey the bravery and daring of Nagamasa, who made his name in many battles, including the Battle of Sekigahara.
