Kagoshima City

Kagoshima City is the prefectural capital of Kagoshima Prefecture, located by the sea in southern Kyushu. It is also known for the active volcano "Sakurajima" facing Kinko Bay (Kagoshima Bay). At the foot of Sakurajima, a promenade filled with lava was maintained, and after the great eruption of 1914, it was connected to the Osumi Peninsula and became the current topography.

Kagoshima City has long prospered as a castle town of the Satsuma clan of 900,000 koku, and has produced many important figures in modern history. Kagoshima City was one of the first 31 cities in Japan to become a municipality in April 1889, and currently has the fourth largest population in Kyushu after Fukuoka City, Kitakyushu City, and Kumamoto City.
